AOK Stories

In memory of Felix D. Cook & as an act of service, I used my involuntary furlough day to take part in “A Day of Transformation” as part of my church’s Metamorphosis Women’s Conference Compassion Project. 50 women from various transitional living facilities throughout the city were given complete makeovers…from head to toe and everything in between. So many people stepped in to donate services (hairstylist, make-up artist, nail tech, food vendors, local stores, etc.) This is my second year and when I tell you it was a wonderful experience. God showed up and showed out throughout our entire process of preparing for this day. He did EXCEEDINGLY and ABUNDANTLY above all we could have thought or asked and as always proved that He is who HE says and knows He is. He is so faithful, loving, and compassionate. The ladies were overwhelmed with joy that people took time, money, and more out of their day to serve them and bless them. We all have gifts and talents that God has blessed us with and when we realize they are not for us to hoard and keep to ourselves, but to use for His glory, there is no limit to what we can do through Him.

I’m glad that on this special day- Felix’s 60th birthday, I was able to give him a gift that I know he would cherish more than anything money, education, or career status could offer and that’s the gift of SERVICE! So I’m proud and blessed that God has blessed me (in all my imperfections) to be a blessing to others and that He sees me as someone He can use and that in honor of Felix.  He has truly clothed me with an abundance of His compassion and love for serving others and I know longer try to get others to understand why I’m “oh so nice.” I know tell them to ask my Father and maybe He’ll tell you, better yet, He’ll allow me to show you!

My dearest friend!

What a beautiful way of celebrating my brother, Felix’s birthday.  It is such a testimony to his life that his spirit of unselfishness and giving/doing for others continues through the lives he so richly blessed, I am only too honored to have participated in this touching gesture in his memory.

A neighbor friend of ours was recently told by his wife that she wanted a divorce after 14 years of marriage.  They have 3 precious daughters and he is so distraught and devastated.  We prepared a warm, home-cooked dinner for him and his daughters.

In honor of Felix, I allowed my staff to leave early today in order to spend some additional time with their families. When I told them they could leave early, I explained to them how important family was to Felix and that they were further beneficiaries of his kindness.
